'Colour stands for all visible light in the world. The mirror reflects all this light. With colours and mirrors, it includes everything in the world of colours. Both represent 'the colours' of this world.' – Yusuke Komuta
The last artist in the Aspects I-III series on contemporary abstract painting is Yusuke Komuta (JPN). His canvases are mapped by artful folds that document both the process of finding the image and the overlapping of the layers of paint applied with a spray gun. Conceptually, he does not follow a fixed set of rules, but is inspired by the dynamics of the folds, similar to the upheavals of a paper airplane. He develops his pictorial designfree of symmetry and strict order. Despite or perhaps because of this unconventional approach, he creates poetic colour spaces that hypnotically captivate the viewer.
