Caroline Walker's painting Doggy Paddle (2018) was the top lot at Phillips' New Now sale on 28 April 2022. With an estimate of £25,000 - 35,000, the painting finally achieved £81,900.
We first encountered the artist's work at Hayward Gallery's Everyday Heroes exhibition in 2020 celebrating key workers throughout the pandemic.
On 29 April, her first exhibition at Stephen Friedman Gallery opened in London, showcasing a collection of oil paintings tracing the daily life of her sister-in-law Lisa as she becomes a mother.
Other highlights in Phillips' New Now sale, which achieved a total of £5.3 million, included Kehinde Wiley's Ferdinand-Philippe-Louis-Henri, Duc d'Orléans (2014) and Doron Langberg's Nisan and Idan in the Studio (2015), with both artists smashing their high estimates.
